Roland Mathews started studying yoga in 1995 as a way to relieve stresses and tensions that come with having a typical corporate job. Having been very active during his formative years with competitive sports like tennis, track & field, and soccer, he found yoga liberating because of its ability to bring the mind to a non-competitive state.
After studying Iyengar Yoga at the Yoga Place in Costa Mesa, CA in 2001, he started teaching yoga there at the encouragement of the owner. He has also studied with Paul Grilley, Sarah Powers, Shiva Rea, Max Strom, and various other teachers. His other interest is in the Feldenkrais method and is currently enrolled in the Feldenkrais practicioner training program.

Roland has been teaching yoga since 2001. His current teaching style primarily focuses on the Yin style but he integrates his knowledge from other lineages like Iyengar, Vinyasa Krama, and Feldenkrais-based movements. Roland currently lives in Encinitas, CA.
Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is the relaxed practice of floor postures. Using slow, deep stretches,
Yin Yoga opens and stimulates core connective tissue, increasing fluidity, calming the
mind and encouraging a sense of joy and well being. It is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize the lengthening and contracting of our muscles. Yin Yoga generally
targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine. All Levels/Gentle.
